Cardi B is an absolute angel!

On Jan. 19th, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper makes her borough proud and keeps her borough in her heart while she steps up and covers the cost of all 17 victims of the deadly apartment fire.

The 29-year-old musician emphasized her continued support for the families still hurting after the city’s deadliest fire with her financial pledge, which covers the costs of returning some of the dead to their home country, Gambia, for burial.

“I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal,” she stated.

Cardi sent her condolences to those affected by the horrific fire.

“I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.”

The fire started when a space heater in an apartment on the third floor of the 19-story building malfunctioned, according to FDNY authorities. When the family in that flat evacuated, the doors did not close automatically as they should have, and thick dark clouds of smoke swept throughout the building.

A family of five, with both parents and three children aged 12, 11, and 5, a mother with two daughters, ages 21 and 19, and a 12-year-old son who had his last birthday one day before the catastrophe, and a married couple were among those killed.

Many people who tried to run were wrapped in clouds of smoke and suffocated, while those who stayed in their apartments survived.

In extending her solidarity to the victims’ families, Cardi emphasized her local roots.

“I’m extremely proud to be from the Bronx, and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still,” the rapper shared. “So, when I heard about the fire and all of the victims, I knew I needed to do something to help.”

Hundreds of people gathered at the Bronx’s Islamic Cultural Center on Sunday to mourn the deaths of fifteen people, many of whom had moved from The Gambia, a West African country. Last week, two more fatalities, Seydou Toure, 12, and his 5-year-old sister Haouwa Mohamadou, were memorialized individually at a mosque in Harlem.

The building’s owners – a trio of LIHC Investment Group, Belveron Partners, and Camber Property Group investors – had gotten repeated penalties from the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development for doors that did not close automatically, including one from December 2021.

The mayor of New York, Mayor Adams, expressed his gratitude and emphasized that donations to the Bronx Fire Relief Fund, which has already raised more than $2.5 million in help, are still being accepted.
