Fried Oreos | Living By Design

Ingredients

  • 2 cups buckwheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1⁄4 cup unrefined coconut oil, melted
  • 11⁄2 cups whole milk
  • 1⁄4 cup honey
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • 2 quarts Canola oil, for frying
  • 24 Oreo cookies

Instructions

For the Fried Oreos:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. Add the vanilla, oil, milk, honey, and eggs and whisk until just smooth (do not overmix).
  3. Set a Dutch oven over medium heat and add the Canola oil. Use a kitchen thermometer to ensure that the oil reaches 360 degrees F.
  4. Once your oil is hot, dip an Oreo in the batter, lift out of the batter to allow the excess to drip away, and gently place the battered cookie in the oil. Continue with a few more cookies being sure to not overcrowd your Dutch oven. The cookies should be cooked through when they float, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Remove the cookies from the oil using a spider and place on a paper-lined rack and sheet pan. Transfer the sheet pan to an oven to keep warm. Repeat this process with the remaining cookies until they’ve all been fried.
