Congratulations are in order for Naomi Osaka!
The 25-year-old tennis pro made a huge announcement Wednesday, indicating she is expecting her first child. She shared the news on social media along with a picture of a sonogram.
“The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that it’s the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun,” she wrote. “These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to.”
The Australian Open’s organizers said on Sunday that the four-time Grand Slam champion had withdrawn from the upcoming tournament. She hasn’t competed since the Toray Pan Pacific Open in September of last year in Tokyo.

“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future,” she shared. “One thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom.’”
The expecting mother declared that she would return for the 2024 Australian Open in the closing paragraph of her announcement post. She would have about a year from now to prepare and return to the court if the event happens at its scheduled time.
She has not yet shared how far along she is in her pregnancy.
