As women, we’re quick to dish out the relationship advice, but we don’t always have this love thing on lock. Being in a partnership with someone is a two-way street, so there’s another way of looking at things besides what we think and see. Here are some wise words from a few men in Hollywood that’ll make you realize some things you could be doing to strengthen your bond with your man.

Lance Gross

The actor says, what’s the rush? Let a man show you who he really is, first: “Take your time. That’s the only way that you’ll truly get to know a person over time. A lot of people show up with their representative and that can last a year, two years, even three years. When it’s right, it’s right,” he told BET.

John Legend

The singer is all about spontaneity, especially when it comes to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, to keep the romance alive: “You just have to make time for each other, go on little trips like we did for her birthday, and go to dinner just the two of you sometimes,” he said, according to Women’s Health.

Will Smith

The father of three is such the poet! He likens relationships to growing a plant: “Love is like gardening. I have learned to focus on helping you to blossom into what you want to be (into what you were born to be), rather than demanding that you become what my fragile ego needs you to be,” said Will Smith on Instagram. I’ve learned to take pleasure in nourishing your dreams, rather than wrestling with you to fulfill my selfish needs and satiate my insecurities. I have learned that love is listening. Love is giving. Love is freedom.”

Terrence J

In 2017 while on The Real, the TV personality shared some guidance for men who might be struggling with conversation, but his words could easily work for women too: “I would say, pick up the phone. We spend so much time on our devices, texting…I believe the key is communication. The more time you spend on devices, the more things get lost in translation.” Watch below:

Sterling K. Brown

Similar to Terrence, Sterling believes that communication is key! But also to keep it light with your partner: “Number one, never stop talking. Problems arise when people stop talking to each other,” he said reports Essence. Laugh a lot, we crack each other up constantly! I do the best I can and I feel like that’s the way most people are. We do the best we can until we know how to do better.”

Another piece of advice that was meant for the opposite sex, but could be for us too is to lay it out on the table: “Communicate with her on every level and show her how much you love her in as many ways as possible…Sometimes it’s not that we don’t appreciate or love you, it’s just the way that we’re doing it,” he said according to BET. Show him how much you admire him, girl. Do you know his love language?
