Storm Helene Causes Massive Flooding Across Swath Of Western North Carolina

Here is to keep you posted on the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina.

Death Toll By County

The Associated Press reports that 227 people are known to have died since the storm made landfall in Florida last week. About half of the victims were in North Carolina alone.

According to state data obtained by WRAL, at least 115 deaths were reported in North Carolina. 72 of that number were reported in Buncombe County alone. The ages range from 4 to 89 years old.

Most of the deaths were by drowning. Other deaths were attributed to car crashes, landslides, and wind/downed trees.

As of 10 am on Oct. 7, there are 135,855 power outages in North Carolina. Duke Energy makes its reports at 11 am ET each day. Here is what Duke Energy reported:
