Fresh off her “While We Wait” mixtape (which debuted at no. 1 on the Top R&B Albums Chart), Kehlani recently released the video for her latest single “Butterfly,” and it’s so magical. From the vibe to the colors, she uses the visual of a caterpillar being in a cocoon emerging into a beautiful winged creature as a metaphor for needing transparency and communication in a relationship.

Just read these lyrics: “I hope you take from this that it’ll make you no less of a man / To break your walls and simply grab my hand / Love shouldn’t be contraband/It shouldn’t trample on your confidence / Shouldn’t be seen as less than compliments.” Watch below:

With the pregnant singer looking to possibly give birth any day now, it’s a wonder if this track or her most current project could have also been inspired by her nine-month journey. “Pregnancy has been very emotional for me, and it’s taken a lot of my energy,” she told The L.A. Times. “So I knew I was going to need more time on the album. I knew I was going to have more stories that I had to work through and get through. In the midst of that, I was just like, ‘Let me just put that on pause.’ To keep myself joyous during a time that has been so mentally exhausting and emotionally draining, I wanted to have fun and get myself through this pregnancy with art in a way that isn’t so emotionally draining on top of a draining pregnancy.”

But you can tell she’s definitely enjoying herself in the moments she has left of this stage, as the mom-to-be posted a video of her dancing along with her friends. And clearly, she’s still got it!

They do say that dancing and physical activity does induce labor so her baby girl could be here sooner than we think. It’s no secret the 23-year-old has been waiting a long time to be a mom. Last year, while announcing her pregnancy, the “FWU” songstress said (in a now-deleted Instagram post): “If you know me, you know I’ve dreamt about motherhood since I was very young. When asked what my goals are, it’s always the idea of a big healthy happy family & whatever comes along is a plus,” according to Hot New Hip Hop.

We can’t wait to see that dream come true, and meet the songwriter’s “favorite co-star” soon!
