Actress Yara Shahidi is strengthening her roots in the Disney company. After starring in ABC’s black-ish and Freeform’s grown-ish, both owned by Disney, Shahidi has been tapped to play the role of Tinkerbell in an upcoming live-action Peter Pan film titled Peter Pan and Wendy.
According to Deadline, Shahidi will be the first person of color to fill the role.
The grown-ish actress was elated by the response from fans and excited to start her latest project.
Shahidi follows in the footsteps of her fellow grown-ish co-star Halle Bailey, who will be playing the role of Ariel in the upcoming live-action film, The Little Mermaid.
Shahidi’s co-stars in the ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’ production will include Jude Law as Captain Hook, and Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson as Peter Pan and Wendy.
In addition to her work for black-ish and grown-ish, which she co-produces, Shahidi has inked an overall deal with ABC Signature Studios.
Yara Shahidi joins the ranks of other Black actors breaking grounds in roles that were not previously given to them or even considered for them. Not one to shy away from speaking out on diversity and inclusion, Shahidi spoke on her art and activism. Watch the video below:
