Two months following ex-wife Naya Rivera‘s fatal drowning incident, Ryan Dorsey takes to Instagram in an emotional 12-minute video to provide an update on the well being of him and their 5-year-old son Josey while also addressing rumors that he’s in a relationship with Rivera’s younger sister, Nickayla Rivera.
“He’s a sweet, smart, caring, sweetest soul of a young man, who at the age of five is having to grow up so fast and grow up like so many of us didn’t have to,” said the 37-year-old actor.
Unfortunately, Josey was present on the day of the boating incident when a current ultimately took the former Glee actress’ life on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Dorsey revealed that during the 5-day search, Josey asked, “Oh, do you think they will find her? I just want them to find her.” The West Virginia native then shares how his son witnessed a nightmare right before his eyes but as the grief begins, the sadness feels heavier “because you know you’re going to have to have a conversation one on one with a little boy and tell him about our new reality,” he shared. Also noting that when he tells Josey that “she’s an angel now and she’s with God” he questions how he can get there.
“I wouldn’t wish that upon any of your ears to have to hear those words come out of the sweetest soul you know,” he proclaimed.
Dorsey also addresses the false headlines that he’s in a relationship with Nickayla. She moved in after Josey asked if his ‘Titi’ could live with them. Since she’s the closest thing he has to a mother, Ryan agreed to the temporary living conditions and knows that he is “going to need all the help you can get as a single parent trying to build your career and navigate this disaster with your child.”
“And to have to let him get what he wants, what he asks for, and what he needs right now, which is his family,” he continued. “Even though you know it’s temporary and it’s not forever. It’s a temporary situation. After all that he’s had to go through how could you deny him that? Because of what? What some strangers might think or say, or spew some hatred based on some ill-advised, ill-logical, misinformed tabloid?”
Nickayla also laid the relationship rumors to rest writing on her Instagram story that during the darkest time in her life, “the only thing that is important is my friends & family. Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself.” She’s also not concerned with how things look “because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure.”
