The 2019 Met Gala Celebrating Camp: Notes on Fashion - Cocktails

Out of all the ensembles and moments that occurred during Monday night’s Met Gala, a more low-key moment you may have missed out on was Jamie Foxx and actress Katie Holmes making their relationship red carpet official at the event.

The pair, who’ve reportedly been dating since 2014, stepped out together, matching in purple. Foxx, 51, and Holmes, 40, were dressed by Zac Posen. They hit the carpet with the designer and other stars sporting his clothing for the big night, including model Jourdan Dunn. While they kept their distance during group photos after their arival, they came together for their own photo opportunities later in the evening inside of the event.

Over the years, the couple has been spotted out and about, walking on the beach, canoodling privately at events. This, however, is their first time snapping photos together, willingly, at a public event.

A source who spoke to PEOPLE recently said they manage to make it work despite their busy schedules.

“When they can spend time together, they do. When they’re busy and they can’t, they don’t,” the source said. “They are two adults who enjoy each other’s company and have for a long time.”

And while they don’t mind being seen together here and there, don’t ever ask them about what they have going on. Last year, Foxx walked out of an interview during the NBA All-Star Weekend when asked about his relationship by sports journalist Michael Smith.

Jemele Hill, who was part of the interview (but is no longer with ESPN), later said Foxx’s decision to leave after being asked the question was “bizarre.”

“Personally, I like Jamie a lot. He’s one of my favorite entertainers but I thought he unnecessarily made Mike look bad,” she told TMZ. “I thought it was kind of bizarre that he acted that way. We both have a lot of respect for Jamie, I certainly do. I thought it was kind of bizarre why he acted that way. I thought it was pretty public and that everybody knew.”

Well, now that it’s super public, maybe Foxx will be more open to inquiries about their relationship in the future — or at least just say “no comment.”
