Issa Rae and La La Anthony are teaming up to executive produce an upcoming horror comedy for Universal Pictures.
The project is still in its beginning stages so there are no plot specifics. The concept stems from and will be written by Angelica Nwandu, creator and founder of The Shade Room. This isn’t the first time the Sundance fellow has been behind the pen. Night Comes On debuted at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and featured Dominique Fishback (Project Power.) The film received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In February, Nwandu shared with Forbes that “I always knew I wanted to be a writer, even from a young age I found it extremely therapeutic and it got me through hard times.”
The Power actress took the news to Instagram with a post captioned, “I’m dreaming out loud. WOW!! Can’t wait for this one!! This team is unbelievable.”

Juju will serve as the feature directorial debut for Thembi Banks (Insecure). Rae is no stranger to holding the executive producer credit. This year alone, the 35-year-old executive produced Netflix’s Lovebirds, Universal Picture’s The Photograph, and her hit HBO series, Insecure.
