The Game star, Wendy Raquel Robinson who portrays Tasha Mack admits that she was skeptical about the show’s reboot on Paramount +. The 54-year-old acclaims that reading the script helped alleviate the doubtfulness.

In 2006, the sitcom made its debut on the network CW. The Game aired for four seasons on the network, before moving to BET for the remaining five seasons.

Admitting to her leeriness, Robinson questioned if any involvement with the show’s reboot is good for her career.

“Whoo! I was nervous,” she exclaims in a recent Essence interview. “I was anxious. ‘Is this the right career path? Is this the right journey?’ At the end of the day, I said what an honor to play a role that has been such an incredible part of my life for 17 years and see all these different reincarnations of her. So yes, I was very skeptical. But I read the script and I loved it.”

The Game’s new setting is Las Vegas instead of the original San Diego. Joining Robinson includes some other original cast members, such as Hosea Chanchez as Mack’s football player son/client Malik Wright. Brittany Daniel will also reprise her role as Kelly Pits, and Pooch Hall as Derwin Davis.

However, not all of the original cast members will be returning. Tia Mowry who portrayed the role of Melanie “Med School” Barnett-Davis previously shut down her involvement with the show’s reboot.

When discussing returning to The Game without his castmate, Mowry, Hall says “It’s too bad that we can’t continue where we left off. We were compared to so many different couples like Joanie and Chachi (“Joanie Loves Chachi”), Martin and Gina (“Martin”), and Rachel and Ross (“Friends”).”

Finishing up his statement, “We are in those conversations. The fact that she’s not there does stink, but she has not stopped working since leaving ‘The Game.’ I know the fans were looking forward to having her and I back together. But … the show must go on.”

Despite Mowry’s absence, fans are expressing their excitement for The Game’s reboot.

“Okay but the new season of #TheGame is giving what it’s supposed to give,” says one fan.

Another fan tweets “The Game is back and better than ever! This reboot is soooo good.”

Mara Brock Akil, the show’s creator, returned alongside her husband, Salim Akil. Kelsey Grammer has also returned to produce the show.

The reboot will focus on subjects such as ageism, racism, and sexism. The Game became available on Nov. 11 on Paramount +.
