Berry Compote recipe, Just Eats with Chef JJ Ep. 535

  • 11⁄2 pounds (4 boxes) mixed berries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and/ or blackberries (about 5- 6 cups)
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons granulated sugar, to taste
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon rose water
  • 1⁄4 cup Bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream


  1. Combine all ingredients except the cornstarch dissolved in water in a saucepan. Add 1 tablespoon water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer until the berries release their juices and the blackberries and raspberries begin to break apart, about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally from time to time.
  2. Stir in dissolved cornstarch and stir until mixture thickens. Remove from the heat and allow to cool, or serve warm, spooned over ice cream.
