Crunchy, buttery, and garlicky: Chef JJ’s brown butter sauteed green beans are the perfect side dish.


  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 garlic cloves, rough chopped
  • 2 small shallots, sliced thin
  • 1 bunch raw green beans, trimmed
  • Kosher salt


Heat a medium saute pan over medium-high heat. Add the butter and as it begins to melt it will start to turn into brown butter. Add the garlic to the pan and toss in the butter (make sure not to burn the butter). Add the shallots and cook until translucent for 1-2 minutes. It’s ok if they brown a little. Add green beans to the pan and toss to coat in the butter, garlic, and shallot mixture. Season with salt to taste and cook until al dente. You want them to be tender with a little crunch.
