Chef Jernard uses this Black-owned whiskey brand to make homemade fries with Chef Resha. There’s no need to wait for happy hour to indulge in this dish! Check out the recipe below. And, don’t forget to add this dish to Chef Jernard’s Atlanta hot chicken sandwich recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1-2 teaspoons cayenne powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup of Whiskey plus more for ketchup
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • Ketchup for serving

Instructions

  1. Slice potatoes into French fries, and place into cold water and Whiskey for 15-30 minutes the longer the better.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the oil is heating, sift the flour, garlic salt, onion salt, (regular) salt, cayenne, smoked paprika into a large bowl.
  3. Gradually stir in enough water so that the mixture can be drizzled from a spoon.
  4. Dip potato slices into the batter one at a time, and place in the hot oil so they are not touching at first. The fries must be placed into the skillet one at a time, or they will clump together.
  5. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Whisk ketchup with a little whiskey and serve alongside fries.
