Save a trip to the grocery store and make this delicious, warm, and spicy vinaigrette!


  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 small red onion, sliced thin on a mandolin
  • Pinch piri piri chili
  • ½ - ¾ cup white wine vinegar
  • 5 medium heirloom tomatoes, quartered
  • 8 breakfast radish, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 3 cups red mizuna
  • 2 heads of butterhead lettuce
  • 2 cups pea shoots
  • Cracked black pepper


Add the olive oil to a medium saute pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot add in the minced garlic and mustard seeds and shake the pan slightly to disperse the ingredients. Add the sliced onions to the saute pan and sprinkle in the piri piri chili. Salt the sliced tomatoes and set aside. This will help bring out the flavor of the tomato. As the onions begin to caramelize add the white wine vinegar, salt, and pepper and bring to a simmer reducing slightly for about 1-2 minutes. Take the dressing off the heat to cool. The dressing will look "broken" and that's ok. In a large bowl mix the mizuna, butterhead lettuce, pea shoots, tomatoes, and breakfast radish. Drizzle desired amount of dressing over the salad to lightly coat, toss the salad and make sure all greens are coated.
