In conjunction with Disney Princess Week, a news program including a cast reunion and a screening of the iconic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella will soon air on television!

Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalban, Victor Garber, Bernadette Peters, Jason Alexander, and Veanne Cox are among the stars from the cast who will participate in Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20.

“We’re delighted that the 25th anniversary of this landmark incarnation of ‘Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella’ is being celebrated on its original network,” Imogen Lloyd Webber, SVP at Concord Theatricals, stated on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.

Webber continued.

“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s unforgettable score is truly timeless — still enchanting listeners 80 years after their partnership began and 65 years since their ‘Cinderella’ first charmed the largest audience in television history.”

The first Black Cinderella played by Brandy and Fairy Godmother played by late singer and actress Whitney Houston, who helped the mistreated Cinderella when her cruel stepmother stopped her from attending the Royal Ball, made television history in the classic Disney live-action picture.

In addition to interviews with the original cast, the reunion special will feature rare behind-the-scenes footage of Houston and explores how the groundbreaking made-for-television musical changed how society perceived the term “princess.”

The film’s positive impacts on representation in Hollywood are also covered in depth in the hour-long session. It includes interviews with celebrities who have a link to the project, such as Todrick Hall, Billy Porter, and Jade Jones, who is also a singer-songwriter.

The original cast of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, including producers Debra Martin Chase and Neil Meron, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, and others will also appear in the program.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella received seven Emmy Award nominations after its original premiere on ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney on Nov. 2, 1997, in front of 60 million viewers.

The special will air on August 23rd at 8 PM ET/PT.  It will stream on August 24th on Hulu. The film is currently available on Disney+.
