The next royal baby is almost here! Meghan Markle had a baby shower yesterday in New York City filled with love and life with 20 of her closest friends, like Gayle King, Serena Williams, and Amal Clooney. It was the Duchess’ first trip back to the U.S. since her marriage to Prince Harry last May, and full of memories she’ll never forget.

It should come as no surprise that the tennis star hosted the lovely event, according to Harper’s Bazaar. The two, who met at a celebrity charity event, have been friends since 2010. Markle even spoke so highly of her gal pal on her now-defunct blog: “She quickly became a confidante I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down-to-earth chick I was able to grab lunch with a couple of weeks ago in Toronto. We are both the same age, have a penchant for hot sauces and adore fashion, but what connects us more than those things is perhaps our belief in exceeding expectations—our endless ambition.”
This just shows that having friends with the same core values and ambition in life is important. Although they’re in different lanes, Serena and Meghan can relate to each other in a way that makes their relationship strong enough to survive marriage and babies. It truly means that their bond is special, and can possibly stand the test of time. They’re probably those friends who don’t talk every day, but when they do, it’s like nothing has changed.
And the connections she’s made from childhood until now were apparent in who showed up: “She’s very kind, she’s very generous, a really, really sweet person,” said King. “So I think her friends just wanted to celebrate her… It was a very, very small, private, affair and just a very special time for her. Because having a baby is a great joy. Let’s not lose sight of that.” The intimate affair took place at The Mark Hotel and included the sweetest cookies in honor of the unborn babe.
Each guest was about to make her own flower arrangement with the help of an instructor to donate to Repeat Roses, reports People, an organization that recycles florals from events and uses them to spread joy to cancer treatment centers and hospice care places. Baby showers can be a day where it’s all about mother and child, but for her to put others above herself on this particular day is selfless.
And as for entertainment, Erin Hill, an NYC-based harpist, who’s played with Cyndi Lauper, Kanye West and Josh Groban, set the mood with her instrument as a cotton candy machine satisfied the sweet tooth to all who ate some. And one thing that made her celebration a little different was that she didn’t open any gifts in front of her guests, according to Quartz. Maybe she wanted to share the presents with her husband.
Once it was over, Meghan caught a flight back to London in a stylish, but comfortable sporty, all-black attire, and topped off with a gold necklace that read “Mummy.”

This is reportedly one of two showers that the 37-year-old will have, so maybe her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton will be in attendance since it will probably be closer to her home in London.
