Chance The Rapper Shares Sweet Childhood Love Story About Kristen Cor

It’s a love story like no other. Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Woman, Pt. 1” was the soundtrack to the first time Chance The Rapper and his soon-to-be-wife, Kristen Corley met, and deep down at the age of nine, he knew they were destined to be together. The 25-year-old gave fans insight into how the two met in 2003, and believe it or not, his mom has a big part to play in their romance.

It was at her work office party that three girls came out to dance and lip-sync to the “Charlie’s Angels” track where he first laid eyes on Corley, and he knew she was a good thing. Just look at her on that magical day:

If the “Coloring Book” artist knew at such a young age what he wanted, then that means it doesn’t take men as long as we might think to make a decision about a woman. But, it’s so refreshing to see the genuineness and authenticity of a love that started in the innocence of a childhood crush blossom into so much more.

Although the 25-year-old was too “shy” to introduce himself to her, or even show off his dance moves (he had won several dance competitions at school by this time), Chance wanted her to have the shine she deserved. “This wasn’t the time or place,” he shared. “Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. Its cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain’t wanna jump the gun. So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself. 16 years later it’s happening. This wknd is the time, and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”

And at their nuptials, this weekend is where the songwriter will get to highlight his skills on the dance floor in the first dance with his love. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a video because I’m sure this time instead of being timid, he’ll show out.

The pair didn’t meet again after that night until 2012 at SBSW in Austin, and later connected all the dots. A year later, the couple began dating and welcomed their daughter Kensli in September 2015, reports Essence. And on the Fourth of July, Chancelor Bennett (his real name) got down on one knee and decided to put a ring on it.
