HBO has announced that after four critically acclaimed seasons, Insecure will end after its upcoming fifth season.
“Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end,” Issa Rae told Deadline. “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience.”
“I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least,” the Emmy-nominated actress added.
The hit comedy was based on Rae’s online series Awkward Black Girl and starred Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, and Amanda Seales. Larry Wilmore (The Bernie Mac Show) co-created the series alongside the 36-year-old Los Angeles native where she also served as the co-writer and executive producer with Prentice Penny (Girlfriends).
The fifth season is expected to go into production later this month with the final season releasing later this year. It goes without saying how the show and its characters will be missed. See what fans had to say below:
