It’s here! The Insecure Season 4 trailer dropped on Thursday, and the new season will premiere on April 12.

Our favorite awkward Black girl, Issa Rae, shared the trailer on her twitter page. “In exactly one month, @insecurehbo is back,” she tweeted. “So geeked for you guys to see Season 4 and to hear this season’s amazing soundtrack! #InsecureHBO”

HBO renewed the fourth season on September 6, 2018, and the cast, including Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Lisa Joyce, Natasha Rothwell, Y’Lan Noel, and Amanda Seales, began shooting in September 2019.

Fans should be excited for the show’s return. Fans have been asking for the 30-minute show to change to hour long episodes for years. A devoted fan, Cassandra Metu, even started a petition on Change.org to make Insecure an hour long and to add more episodes per season. It looks like at least one of the requests was met.

The fourth season will be the series most extended season, airing ten episodes, compared to past seasons, which aired eight episodes.

But, what fans really want to know is…will there be hour-long episodes?

Back in October 2019, Insecure’s show runner, Prentice Penny, explained why the extended show time may not happen.

“It’s not that we don’t want to give y’all what you want but it takes 10 months to make a season. Adding more episodes and making them longer will actually take MORE time to get to you,” he tweeted. “That’s an additional 4 months to make in between breaking stories, filming, and editing.”

However, Rae did let fans know that she heard their requests.

On the cast’s first day of filming season 4, in September 2019, Rae posted a picture on Instagram with her fellow castmates, Orji, Joyce, Rothwell, and Seals. “yOu BeTteEr MakKe It A hOur” Day One. Season Four. #InsecureHBO,” she wrote in the caption.

So, fans, keep your fingers crossed — there may be hope for the hour-long episodes.

Rae and Larry Wilmore created the comedy-drama, which initially premiered online on September 23, 2016, via HBO Now and HBO Go, before premiering on HBO’s cable station on October 9, 2016. The series is partially based on Rae’s acclaimed web series Awkward Black Girl.

Since the television series’ debut, it has received ten major nominations and won two awards. For Rae’s performance on the series, she received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy, in addition to a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Co-star actor Jay Ellis also won a 2018 American Film Institute Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The show won a 2018 American Film Institute Award for Television Programs of the Year.
