This year’s Urban One Honors focuses on “The Soundtrack of Black America,” aimed to spotlight artists both past and present who have left an undeniable mark in the world of music, such as Gamble and Huff, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and Timbaland.

The lawsuit brought against Nicki Minaj by her husband's accuser was voluntarily abandoned. Kenneth Petty was sentenced to four years in jail in 1995 after being convicted of attempted rape in the first degree for assaulting Jennifer Hough in 1994. Hough's lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, claimed that she voluntarily dropped her complaint against Minaj but will pursue her claim against Petty.
